Cat Power | US | Folk/Indie/Alternative | since 1992
For a better half of her career, Chan Marshall, better known by her stage name Cat Power, was battling alcoholism and mental health problems. She had a hard time on stage and was known for her odd behavior,  rambles and cutting her performances short without explanation. But after getting sober in 2006 Cat Power’s stage precence has become more professional. She’s still a little awkward, doesn’t like to talk between songs and at times, seems to be very uncomfortable on stage. But that doesn’t matter, Cat Power isn’t the kind of artist to perform for the audience, but for the music. Her voice goes straight through your heart and soul and leaves a mark. Her shows have an unstoppable flow and talking would just interrupt that. She performs in almost complete darkness and when there’s a silent moment between songs, she laughs, akwardly. Sometimes she dances in silly manners and says quiet Thank Yous for the audience. There’s something humble and enderiang in her stage precence, something relatable. Most of the nights setlist contains either covers or unheard material and even the few of her own songs have shaped into something new. She has the similar style that Bob Dylan has, making her songs almost unrecognisable (she’d love this comparison, like me, she’s also a huge Dylan fan) when she performs them. For some that might be hard to accept, but it really just makes her more interesting, if you want to hear her album versions, then you might as well stay home and listen to the albums. Cat Power gives a haunting performance, the kind of that will haunt you for the rest of your life.

for almost 10 years i’ve dreamt of seeing Cat Power live and now she’s finally coming to Helsinki, next month! i’m gonna see her NEXT MONTH. i honestly don’t think i’ve ever been this excited about anything in my life.

"we’ve lived in bars and danced on tables,
hotels, trains and ships that sail.
we swim with sharks
and fly with aeroplanes out of here,
out of here."

i’m pretty sure she’s my soulmate. everything she sings about is just magic. it’s like everything can be in a one word, i can relate to every single word she has ever sung. and she loves Bob Dylan even more than i do; my chance in the middle of the stadium in Paris, France. can I finally tell you, can I finally tell you to be my man. April in Paris, can I see you, can you please be my man. me and her and our dear friend Bob Dylan would make a killer trio. word.
